Paul Lawrie – Biography
Paul Lawrie is in a bracket of golfer that not many others fit into – he is a previous winner of arguably the most prestigious of golf’s Majors, the Open Championships. In 1999 Paul secured the claret jug having held his nerve to win the four hole play-off at Carnoustie.
In addition to his Open win, Paul has won seven further titles on the European Tour, with two victories in both Spain and Qatar, plus wins in Wales and Scotland. His ability to be in contention and win at the highest level is still evident following a number of top 10 finishes in the last few years along with his win at the Open de Andalucia in 2011. He almost made it two victories in 2011 having come 2nd at the season ending event on the European Tour, the Dubai World Championship. Paul’s fantastic form continued into 2012 where he won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters and also finished 2nd at the BMW PGA Championships. With a 3rd place at the Volvo World Matchplay, 9th at the WGC Accenture World Matchplay, and then an impressive win at the Johnnie Walker Championship, Paul cemented his place in the historic 2012 Ryder Cup winning team and earned a crucial point with his emphatic singles win over Brandt Snedeker.
Paul has competed in team golf at the highest level having represented Europe twice in the Ryder Cup as well as Scotland four times in the World Cup. He has also been a member of the GB & Ireland team in the Seve Trophy on three separate occasions.
Off the course, Paul is one of the most committed and dedicated Tour professionals to making a contribution to the grassroots of the game, whereby he has created and developed the Paul Lawrie Foundation. Giving both time and money, Paul has helped schools, clubs and thousands of people in Scotland to enjoy the game of golf.
