Paul Lawrie – Biography
Paul Lawrie is in a bracket of golfer that not many others fit into – he is a previous winner of arguably the most prestigious of golf’s Majors, the Open Championships. In 1999 Paul secured the claret jug having held his nerve to win the four hole play-off at Carnoustie.
In addition to his Open win, Paul has won six titles on the European Tour, with two victories in Spain plus Wales, Scotland and two in Qatar. His ability to be in contention and win at the highest level is still evident following a number of top 10 finishes in the last few years along with his win at the Open de Andalucia in 2011. He almost made it two victories in 2011 having come 2nd at the season ending event on the European Tour, the Dubai World Championship.
Paul has also competed in team golf at the highest level having represented Europe in the Ryder Cup as well as Scotland four times in the World Cup. He has also been a member of the GB & Ireland team in the Seve Trophy on three separate occasions.
Outside of the European Tour and as an amateur, Paul has a series of tournament wins under his belt including the Scottish PGA Championships, the Scottish Under 25 Championships and the Scottish Assistants Championships.
Off the course, Paul is one of the most committed and dedicated Tour professionals to making a contribution to the grassroots of the game, whereby he has created and developed the Paul Lawrie Foundation. Giving both time and money, Paul has helped schools, clubs and thousands of people in Scotland to enjoy the game of golf. His Foundation is now successfully running over 40 golf events for juniors of all ages in and around Aberdeenshire, with Paul personally appearing where possible to present trophies and prizes.
