Kiran Matharu – Biography
21 year old Kiran Matharu is one of the most exciting female golfers to emerge from England since Laura Davies and experts predict she will dominate women’s golf for many years.
Yorkshire born Kiran started golf at the age of 11 and hasn’t looked back since. She is the only female British Asian professional golfer and her profile already extends well beyond the golf course.
Following her victory in the 2006 English Amateur Championship, Kiran represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup versus America. She then turned pro with a handicap of +4, the lowest in the UK.
In 2007 Kiran became the youngest ever European Tour member and managed an impressive 4 top ten finishes, narrowly missing out on a win at the Nykredit Masters in a three way play-off. Her top 5 finishes in Finland and Denmark were enough to clinch her the Volvo Cross Country Challenge title, a brand new Volvo XC70 and place her 29th on The European Tour Order of Merit in that year.
On the course Kiran is a powerful, straight-hitting modern golfer. Her tall, elegant swing is technically sound and she is an extremely consistent performer. Her talent and natural flair will see her compete with the best in the world for many years to come.
Off the course, Kiran is extremely down-to-earth and mature. She is hard-working and dedicated to the game, generally found either on the practice ground or helping out with her parents business.
