Jamie Abbott – Biography

Born in Suffolk in 1987, Jamie Abbott has risen through the ranks from junior to professional, and is highly regarded as one of East Anglia’s most promising talents.

As a junior, Jamie has his breakthrough year in 2004, stealing the show in his home county by winning the Suffolk Junio Match Play, Stroke Play and Foursomes.  In the same year he added the East Anglian Championship title earning him a call up to the U18 England Squad.

In 2005 Jamie’s career continued to flourish, picking up victories at the Suffolk Amateur Match Play Championships as well as at the EGU Southern Eastern County Boys.  He made the progression to the U21 England Squad, shortly followed by a promotion to the England A Squad in 2006.  His winning streak continued in 2006 where he claimed the Faldo Series title (Midlands & East Anglia) as well as the Duncan Masters crown, and in 2007 he was promoted again within in the England ranks to the all important Elite Squad.

From 2007-2009 Jamie consistently performed within the amateur game, both in the UK and Europe, narrowly missing out on winning the Lagonda Trophy and the Portuguese Amateur Championships.  An impressive run at the English Amateur Championships in 2009 saw him win the stoke play event and progress to the third round of the match play.

Jamie has represented England on numerous occasions, including the Home Internationals, where he was part of the 2010 winning team and claimed the higest winning margin in the singles with a 6&4 victory.  He had a huge boost in 2010 after qualifying for The Open Championships at St. Andrews – a result that inspired him to turn professional that August.  His first event as a pro almost ended in victory with a 2nd place finish at Slaley Hall on the EuroPro Tour, and the following week he was just two shots off the leader finishing 9th place at Five Lakes.

In 2011, and in his first full season a a professional, Jamie has shown that he has the ability to win tournaments and perform consistently.  Having won the opening event of the EuroPro Tour season (the YourGolfTravel.com European Championships), he went on to have 3 further top 5 finishes on the EuroPro, ending the season ranked 5th on the Order of Merit to secure his Challenge Tour card for 2012.

Jamie started the 2012 season narrowly missing out on a win at the Hi5 Tour event, El Valle Open.
