David Law – Biography
David Law, from Aberdeen in Scotland, looks set for an exciting future in golf following an outstanding career as an amateur. The 20 year old has been mentored by fellow Aberdonian and Open Champion Paul Lawrie, and has quickly flourished into a player of great promise with an impressive number of victories on the amateur circuit.
Having started playing golf at the age of six, David made a quick rise through the junior game and was representing senior club sides at just thirteen years old. Following a series of wins at events such as the Faldo Series and Aberdeen Mens Quaich Championship in 2007, David went onto win the North East Boys Championship and the Scottish Junior Boys Tour in 2008. He has also been a member of the Paul Lawrie Foundation elite squad since 2008, which has proved invaluable to have the support and advice from such an inspirational tour pro.
In 2009 David really hit the headlines when he won the Scottish Boys and the Scottish Mens Amateur Championship in the same year – the first player ever to achieve this feat. Following an unfortunate wrist injury that kept David out of action for most of 2010, he bounced back in exceptional fashion with a series of wins in 2011. His first title came in South Africa where he won the Northern Amateur Open Championship – almost making it a double by finishing 2nd in the South Africa Strokeplay Championship. He then went on to win the Scottish Mens Amateur Championship and four weeks later landed the Aberdeen Asset Management Northern Open title, a pro event on the Tartan Tour.
On an international level, David has been part of the Scotland set up over the past three years. He competed in the Home Internationals in 2011 and was a member of the touring Scottish squad in South Africa. He was also shortlisted into the 2011 Walker Cup squad.
David turned professional in October 2011 and has made a fantastic start to life as a pro, with his maiden victory at the Open Dar Es Salam on the EPD Tour in early 2012. He also posted a top 10 finish on the EuroPro tour, and narrowly missed out on defending the Northern Open on the Scottish PGA circuit where he finished 2nd. He comfortably qualified through to 2nd stage of European Tour Qualifying School, only a few places off progressing towards final stage.
Early 2013 has seen David win his 2nd professional event on the EPD Tour, and he will continue to split his playing schedule between the Challenge Tour and the EPD.
